The expression and cellular localization of claudin-1, ZO-1, JAM-A, and occludin were determined in each group by immunohistochemistry and Western blot. Results: Immunolabeling of ZO-1 was mainly expressed in the capillaries and venules of the vagina. Claudin-1, JAM-A, and occludin were expressed in the epithelium of the vagina. The immunoreactivity and protein expression of claudin-1 was significantly decreased in the ovariectomy group compared with the control group. Conclusions: Our results suggest that tight junction proteins may have an important role in the vagina. Further studies are needed to clarify the role of each tight junction protein on vaginal lubrication.

Role of inducible nitric oxide synthase in induction of RhoA expression in hearts from diabetic rats.

AIMS Recent studies from our laboratory demonstrated that increased expression of the small GTP-binding protein RhoA and activation of the RhoA/rho kinase (ROCK) pathway play an important role in the contractile dysfunction associated with diabetic cardiomyopathy in hearts from streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Nitric oxide (NO) has been reported to be a positive regulator of RhoA exp...

AB156. Taurine ameliorates erectile function in streptozocin-induced type 1 diabetic rats via multiple signaling pathways

Objective: PDE5 inhibitors represent the first line therapy for treatment of ED. However, diabetic patients have poorer response compared with normal patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether taurine, a sulfurcontaining amino acid, affects diabetic erectile dysfunction. Methods: Type 1 diabetes mellitus was induced in male rats by streptozotocin (60 mg/kg, intraperitoneally). Aft...

Thymoquinone Defeats Diabetes-Induced Testicular Damage in Rats Targeting Antioxidant, Inflammatory and Aromatase Expression

Antioxidants have valuable effects on the process of spermatogenesis, particularly with diabetes mellitus (DM). Therefore, the present study investigated the impact and the intracellular mechanisms by which thymoquinone (TQ) works against diabetes-induced testicular deteriorations in rats. Wistar male rats (n = 60) were randomly allocated into four groups; Control, Diabetic (streptozotocin (STZ...

Chronic administration of sildenafil improves erectile function in a rat model of chronic renal failure

The relationship between erectile dysfunction (ED) and chronic renal failure (CRF) has been reported in several studies. This study aimed to investigate whether the chronic use of sildenafil could enhance the erectile capacity in CRF-induced rats. In addition, we assessed the effect of that treatment on certain molecules, which have been suggested to play crucial roles in erectile physiology an...
